\\ This file will be nicely displayed, one screen at a time, if you simply \\ use the command "readme" instead of the DOS type command. \\ \rInstallation of HOPTWIG and 1KeyCD:\r \r1.\r If the root directory of you boot disk does not contain a file named "\bconfig.sys\b", then copy the one provided to it. If it already contains a config.sys, be sure it includes the line "\bdevice = nansi.sys\b". Remember that config.sys is an ASCII or DOS file, and must be edited and saved accordingly. \r2.\r Copy the file "\bnansi.sys\b" to the root directory of your boot disk. The public domain "new ansi.sys" or "nansi.sys" works much better than the MS-DOS-provided ansi.sys with HOPTWIG. \r3.\r Copy HOPTWIG.EXE and 1KeyCD.EXE to a directory on your \bpath\b. Use the command "path" to find out what these directories are (they are set with the AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root directory of your boot disk). Typically, a directory named \ bin or \public or \dos will contain most of your utility programs, and these two can be added to it. \r4.\r On your hard disk path, \brename\b HOPTWIG.EXE to F.EXE (F stands for Function key, as in F1). Rename 1KeyCD.EXE to X.EXE (for Xchange directories). \r5.\r The programs F and X are self-explanatory. Use the command "\bf ?\b" for a full explanation of HOPTWIG. For 1KeyCD, execute X and then hit the \bF1\b key. \\ SHARE HOPTWIG.ARC Give copies of the shareware versions of HOPTWIG and 1KeyCD to your friends; put them on your local bulletin board. Please do this with the file \bHOPTWIG.ARC\b which contains all the necessary files in a single package. FULL CAPABILITY VERSIONS AVAILABLE HOPTWIG and 1KeyCD are products of Martz Software, 48 Hunter's Hill Circle, Amherst MA 01002. The shareware versions are limited demonstration versions of full capability programs available as the "HOPTWIG PACKAGE" for only \b$19\b prepaid. Either program can print out a complete \border form\b which should be used for ordering. \\ \rLIMITATIONS OF SHAREWARE VERSIONS\r The shareware version of HOPTWIG lacks several features found in the licensed version. The latter saves function key mappings in a file in the root directory. This enables it to optionally (i) \bshow all mappings\b on request; (ii) \bremember the mappings after a cold boot\b; (iii) \bhop on cold boot\b to a specified directory. In order to avoid confusion when \bmultiple disk drives\b are in use, when used on a drive other than C:, it requires that the variable 'hoptwig' be set equal to your boot drive (typically hoptwig=c) in the environment with the DOS 'set' command; a single copy of its data file is then stored on this drive. It also has a \bbuilt-in clear\b capability which can clear one or all mappings. It has a 'non-verbose' mode useful in batch files. The shareware version of 1KeyCD works with at most 18 subdirectories. The licensed version can handle up to \r90\r. \\ \rDirectory to Directory File Updater D2D Also Available\r When you order the HOPTWIG PACKAGE you get three programs, HOPTWIG, 1KeyCD, and D2D. All are included for the single licensing fee of $19, prepaid. What is D2D? \\ Often, several people may need to work on a set of files, but each on their own personal computer. In this case, there will be several copies of the files at different workstations. When it comes time to make a single "up to date" copy of the files, the most recently modified copy of each file must be identified. Worse, different modifications may have been made to separate copies of the same file, so that no single copy has all the new additions. D2D helps to deal with these problems. It compares the directories on two disks, reporting how many files are \bidentical\b, which files have been \bmodified most recently\b on each disk, and which are \bmissing\b from each disk. It then offers to update whichever disk has the older or missing files (or both disks, if necessary) by copying the newer versions of files to the older disk. After updating, D2D offers to make a special STATUS file on each disk. This lists the updated directory in ASCII format, showing the file update times to the nearest second. These files allow future D2D runs to detect cases in which independent modifications have been made to both copies of a given file so that each version has new information not contained in the other. In this case, D2D warns that, in order to prevent loss of information, the files must be integrated by hand before an update can be done. \\ \rDocument Management System for Citations: dms4Cite\r Martz Software is the developer of a set of programs for creation and efficient use of a personal bibliographic database. This is most often useful to authors who in the sciences or academic professions, where extensive bibliographies are needed. dms4Cite not only facilitates storage of references with abstracts, but also scans through manuscripts or grant applications, finding the cited references. It can renumber the citations in the manuscript, as well as preparing the corresponding bibliography. It allows reformatting of the bibliography to fit the styles of any journal or granting agency. The dms4Cite system (formerly Martz-BIBLIOFILE) costs $250.
